Hands Off The Savings Account
This is a very hard part of learning how to save money. Forget about that money! Once you have put the money in a savings or retirement account just forget about it. Try to get it into your head that it is no longer your money. Make it just like paying a bill the money is now gone. I know it is easier said than done, but it can be done. Here are a few tips to help.
- Do not look at the money. Dont’ login to your bank account and look at how much money is in there. Unless this is motivating to keep savings. Usually it will just be a temptation.
- No access. Do not carry around a card or checkbook that would give you quick access to the account. You want to have to at least think about it before you spend that money.
- Have someone else do it. In an extrememe cases you can have someone you trust manage the accounts for you. This way you will have to go through them to get the money. But remember, no getting mad at them when they tell you that you don’t need a new IPod.
